About Sassy Dama

Sassy Dama was created for people navigating the realities of life after 50 – not the glossy version, but the real one.

This site is grounded in lived experience, practical knowledge, and compassion. It’s for those who are aging, caring for loved ones, managing limited resources, and still trying to live with dignity, purpose, and clarity.

Why This Site Exists

Life after 50 often looks very different from what we imagined.

Many people are living on Social Security while still working to make ends meet. Others are caring for aging parents, facing health changes, or redefining their role in family and society. These transitions can feel isolating – especially when most advice online feels either unrealistic, fear-driven, or disconnected from everyday life.

Sassy Dama exists to fill that gap.

Here, you’ll find grounded guidance that respects your intelligence, your lived experience, and your right to honest information without hype or shame.

The Voice Behind Sassy Dama

The voice behind Sassy Dama is Yvonne Chiana, BS, MS.

I come to this work with both professional training and real-world experience. My background includes a master’s degree in microbiology, 10 years of hospice nursing, and more than 15 years of experience in home health nursing.

I have worked closely with older adults and their families in everyday living environments and supported many families through aging, illness, caregiving, and end-of-life transitions.

I’ve seen firsthand how medical realities, emotional stress, family dynamics, and financial pressure often collide – and how little practical guidance people receive when they need it most.

Through this work, I became deeply familiar with the realities of aging, caregiving dynamics, financial vulnerability, and the often-overlooked risks of elder abuse and exploitation. I’ve seen how easily trust can be misused during times of illness, dependency, or transition – and how difficult these situations can be for families to recognize and address.

In my own life, I navigate the same challenges many readers face: balancing work while receiving Social Security, managing rising costs, supporting family, and adapting to the changes that come with later adulthood. I’m also a mother to grown children and a grandmother, roles that deeply shape how I understand aging, responsibility, and legacy.

This site reflects that intersection of knowledge, experience, and humanity.
